The 2018 Desmirail impressed out of barrel. Now bottled, it still represents one of the best vintages that I have tasted from this Margaux estate. Gorgeous blackberry and raspberry scents feature on the nose, the new oak supportive and beautifully enmeshed. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, a keen line of acidity and a chalky-textured finish that is extremely well focused. This is a great success for Denis Lurton and his team. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Always a charming, balanced Margaux, the 2018 Château Desmirail reveals a dense purple/plum color to go with a terrific nose of ripe red and blue fruits as well as complex sandalwood, flowery incense, spice, and tobacco. Beautifully textured, medium-bodied, and already complex, it has ripe, silky tannins and just loads of character. I'd be happy to have bottles in the cellar. It's going to evolve for 15-20 years.

The 2018 Desmirail is a gorgeous wine for readers who want a bottle to drink now. Plush and inviting, the 2018 possesses terrific depth in its inky dark fruit. Spice, chocolate, dried herbs and licorice add pretty aromatic top notes to balance all of that natural richness. All the elements are harmonious and impeccably balanced. There is so much to like.

The 2018 Desmirail has a deep garnet-purple color and notes of stewed red and black cherries, blackberry preserves and redcurrant jelly with touches of sautéed herbs, raspberry leaves and mossy tree bark with a waft of anise. The medium-bodied palate is delicately played and refreshing, featuring a light touch of chewy tannins and crunchy red and black fruit flavors, finishing earthy.
