Tasting notes
Ripe red fruits, tobacco, sappy flowers, and some cedary and spicy wood notes all emerge from the 2021 Château Charmail, a medium-bodied, balanced, classy 2021 that has fine tannins and a great finish. It's a delicious, impeccably made red to drink over the coming 7-8 years. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot. This Château was awarded Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status in 2020, and they’ve certainly made a rock solid 2021.

The 2021 Charmail, which lies next to Sociando-Mallet and expanded after the new owners bought two parcels, has a composed and focused bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry and light floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-balanced and quite elegant, with a poised and prolonged finish. This punches well above its weight—delicious.
The 2021 Charmail turned out well. Dried flowers, tobacco, spice, cedar and dried red-toned fruit are very nicely lifted. This mid-weight Haut-Médoc is soft, open-knit and very easy to like.
Th 2021 Charmail has a well-defined bouquet of blackberry and raspberry fruit, the oak well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with good fruit concentration, and well balanced and delineated, leading to a brisk, focused finish. This is a superb Haut-Médoc.
