Tasting notes
Inky ruby. Ripe blackberry, plum, olive and toasty oak spices on the highly perfumed nose. Lush, palate-coating black and blue fruit compote flavors are brightened by a peppery quality and a touch of candied violet. Closes sappy and very long, with fine-grained tannins adding shape and gentle grip.

Inky purple. Highly aromatic, displaying scents of candied dark berries, olive tapenade and violets, with a vanilla accent in the background. Fleshy and expansive in the mouth, offering sweet blackberry and cherry-cola flavors and a lashing of cracked pepper. Dusty tannins come on late and fold themselves into the wine's juicy fruit on the finish.
60-year-old Syrah. Bright crimson. Yes indeed smoked bacon notes and then ripe red fruits on a marked framework. Very sinewy and not nearly ready. A slight hole in the middle. (JR)
