A solid, charming, borderline outstanding Pomerol, the 2023 Château Bonalgue offers red and black fruits, spicy wood, and chocolaty, leafy herb aromatics on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a solid mid-palate, ripe tannins, and rock-solid richness and depth. Drink this successful, pleasure-bent effort over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2026-2041.

The 2023 Bonalgue is impressive. A Pomerol of depth and structure, the 2023 is super expressive right out of the gate. Dark red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and mocha fill out the layers, giving this heady, fruity Pomerol a good deal of intensity. Firm tannins and brisk acids frame the potent finish. This broad, creamy 2023 has a lot to offer once the tannins soften.

The 2023 Bonalgue suffered more mildew pressure than its stablemate, Clos du Clocher. The yield had to be carefully managed. Picked from September 4 to October 2, it has a pastille-like purity on the nose with notes of blackcurrant and strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit laced with graphite. Linear in style with a strict finish, it will require four to five years in bottle just to shave its edges. Fine.
