Tasting notes
The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, big wine. Plums, mocha, chocolate, spices, new leather and flowers are some of the notes that emerge from this fleshy, large-scaled Amarone. This is a fairly obvious, fruit-driven Amarone, but it works. Firm yet well-balanced tannins frame the insistent finish.

Cask sample. Dark, concentrated ruby. Notes of coconut and oak staves cover cherry fruit. Oak is the main theme at this stage, but with cherry and damson fruit having the last word on the finish. Powerful, slightly rustic tannin. (WS)
