Score 93/100 · Drink 2026-2046, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Coming from sandy-clay and gravel soils over a limestone subsoil on the Barsac plateau, the 2023 Château Nairac is 100% Sémillon aged approximately 18 months in French oak barrels. It has an exotic nose of honeyed peach, orange blossom, mint, and caramelized pineapple, and it's rich and medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a balanced, layered, opulent mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's a ripe, concentrated, nicely textured dessert wine that will evolve gracefully over the coming two decades or more. Drink 2026-2046.

In comparison with Bastor-Lamontagne, also owned by the Grands Chais de France group, the 2023 Nairac appears more reserved and introspective at this stage, revealing aromas of grapefruit, white fruits and spices, accented by quince. Medium-bodied, round and supple, it is well balanced and built around a clean, fruit-driven core, concluding with an elegant and fresh finish. The blend comprises 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2023 Nairac has an attractive nose with orange pith and tangerine scents, becoming peachier with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry, crisp acidity, not the most complex Sauternes, though it shows better than it did from barrel. Very fine.

Good depth and volume, with aromas of honeyed pineapple, sweet lemon pie and marmalade with hints of cream and wax. Round and balanced, with a medium to full body and a lush, textured finish. Drink or hold.
