Drink 2025-2040, Vinfolio, Apr 2024

The 2023 Champs Libres offers up fantastic breadth and depth on the palate, with notes of fresh citrus fruit and white flowers. There’s an excellent textural quality to the 2023. It’s so layered and creamy, yet there’s vibrant acidity too, retaining the wine’s balance with the freshness driving through to the finish. The latest iteration of this stunning white from the Guinaudeau stable is as good as any in recent years. 13.5% alcohol. Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

The 2023 Les Champs Libres is just as impressive as it was in barrel. Aromatic, airy and lifted, Champs Libres is captivating. Lemon peel, chalk, white pepper, mint and sage open beautifully in the glass. There's a lightness in the 2023 that is so appealing. Readers will find a dry white that is all about understatement and class.

All Sauvignon Blanc that was fermented and aged nine months in 75% new French oak barrels with the balance in one-year-old barrels, the 2023 Guinaudeau Vignerons Les Champs Libres Blanc is a brilliant, legit great white wine that ranks with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Stone fruits, citrus, crushed stone, mint, and salty minerality all emerge from the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied and concentrated, with integrated acidity and a great finish. This is a dead ringer for a Les Perrières from Meursault. Don't miss it. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 Les Champs Libres has a well-defined bouquet, discreet at first, like the Grand Village Blanc, touches of apple blossom, wet limestone and touches of lemon thyme. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp line of acidity, citrus-fresh with a dab of stem ginger toward the finish. Utterly delicious.
