Score 94/100 · Drink 2026-2066, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, Mar 2026

Despite a slight touch of volatile acidity, the 2023 Lamothe-Guignard reveals an attractive bouquet of honey, quince, exotic fruits and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and round, it is generous and enveloping, supported by well-developed botrytis and concludes with a perfumed, saline finish.

A blend of 90% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc, and 5% Muscadelle, the 2023 Lamothe Guignard has 150 g/l of residual sugar and a pH of 3.7. It is pale lemon-straw in color and bursts with vibrant notes of mango pudding, lime cordial, and apricot preserves, plus touches of jasmine tea and beeswax. The palate is jam-packed with tropical and orchard fruit layers, with decadent sweetness offset by just enough freshness, finishing with great length.

The 2023 Lamothe Guignard takes time to coalesce on the nose and doesn't quite shake off a bit of reduction. But, there seems to be ample botrytized fruit underneath. The palate is promising, with marmalade, quince and tangerine notes, well-judged acidity, neatly integrated oak and a persistent finish. It concludes with style and should make a fine Sauternes once the aromatics get it together.
