The 2023 La Garde is a big step forward for this Pessac-Léognan estate. It's the first vintage in which Cabernet Sauvignon drives the blend. Blackberry, graphite, lavender, menthol and chocolate fill out the layers. Dark and resonant, with terrific persistence, La Garde is impressive.

The 2023 La Garde has a pleasant nose with blackberry, cedar and light sous-bois scents, just a touch of pencil box emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite dry and austere, needing more flesh and fruit to balance out the finish.
The 2023 La Garde Rouge is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose features notes of stewed red and black plums and juicy raspberries followed by hints of garrigue and bay leaf. The medium-bodied palate is bright and refreshing, with appealing herbal accents and a light chewiness on the finish.
Solid and structured with good volume and length, showing notes of dark fruit and walnuts. Medium-bodied with compact, velvety tannins. The finish is firm and even.
