Tasting Notes

Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Apr 2024

Acquired by the Vauthier family in 2014, La Clotte continues to go from strength to strength. To start with it’s a little shy on the nose, but aromas of ripe redcurrant and menthol waft from the glass. The palate is more intense – lots of fleshy red fruit layered with mineral acidity that brings great precision to the finish. It comes in at 14% alcohol although it feels much lower. An expressive but serious wine that offers great value. Blend: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc

Floral in nature, you also find notes of licorice, cherries, and red with black plums. The medium-bodied wine is soft, silky, vibrant, fresh, and spicy, with a lifted, red berry finish. You can enjoy this with just a year or two of aging. The wine blends 85% Merlot, with 15% Cabernet Franc.

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, La Clotte 2023 is deep garnet-purple in color. Notions of mossy tree bark and dusty soil slowly emerge from the glass, giving way to a core of Morello cherries, juicy plums, and spice cake. The medium-bodied palate has subtle layers of red fruit and savory nuances, with satiny tannins and bags of freshness, finishing on a minerally note.

This is showing the limestone magic of 2023. Medium-bodied and very polished with a tight, linear structure, but purity of fruit and wonderful length. Silky texture. So bright. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc.
