Vinfolio, Apr 2024

This was slow to go through malolactic fermentation, and the samples therefore weren’t showing very well at this stage, still rather disjointed. The new oak was dominating, but you can see the concentration and freshness behind. Aged in 100% new oak, with 13.5% alcohol and 3.5pH. Blend: 97% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc

The 2023 Enclos Tourmaline is based on 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc and was vinified and aged 15 months in all new French oak. Its deep purple hue is followed by a beautiful perfume of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with scorched earth, graphite, violets, and hints of iron. It's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and has the vintage's supple, pure, layered style, good concentration, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink 2027-2043.

The 2023 Enclos Tourmaline is made from a collection of parcels measuring 1.2 hectares. Floral top notes lead into a core of red cherry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and cedar. Finessed tannins pull it all together on the close. This aromatic, fruity Pomerol is a delight. Tasted two times.

The 2023 Enclos Tourmaline has a lively and almost feisty bouquet with cranberry, raspberry and black peppery scents that thankfully maintain impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, very nicely structured with a dash of black pepper (again). Linear yet long and sustained, this is a delicious Pomerol that should give up to 20 years’ drinking pleasure.
