Vinfolio, Apr 2024

It’s unfair to define La Dame de Montrose as just a second wine – especially in 2023. This instantly shows its complexity on the nose, with notes of blackberries, graphite and blackcurrants. Medium-bodied, there’s density to the structure, with beautiful tannins and a long finish. Beautiful and great value for money. Blend: 61% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc

Based on 61% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and aged 12 months in French oak barrels with one-third new, the 2023 La Dame De Montrose offers spiced currants, black cherries, leafy tobacco, and baking spice on the nose. It's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered, expressive style, with ripe tannins, a juicy, lively mouthfeel, and terrific overall balance. Drink this charming, satisfying, complex second wine over the coming 15-20 years. Drink 2026-2046.

The 2023 La Dame de Montrose is a polished, sophisticated wine. Strong floral and savory notes mark the bouquet, giving the 2023 its decidedly perfumed character. Light on its feet and refined, with exquisite balance, the 2023 is a total delight. Time in the glass releases the wine's bright, forward fruit.

The 2023 La Dame de Montrose has a much lighter, airier bouquet compared to the previous vintage, with tobacco-tinged black fruit, hints of liquorice and sea spray. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh entry, fine tannins, quite bright and tensile, with noticeable acidity and salinity keeping this on its toes toward the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle, and you will have a fine Deuxième Vin.
