Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Apr 2024

Vibrant red fruit leaps out of the glass – red cherry, pomegranate and cranberry compote – and a faint lilac note lingers in the background on the nose of the 2023 Carillon d’Angélus. It’s very fresh on the palate, with supple, fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity that lends energy and zest. Aged in 60% new oak, with 14% alcohol and 3.65pH. Blend: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc

Cassis, darker black cherries, spring flowers, and graphite all emerge from the 2023 Le Carillon D'Angelus, a gorgeous second wine that shows the style of this château today. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and aged in 40% new oak with the rest in stainless steel, it's medium-bodied, with a round, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a real sense of class and finesse. Drink this beauty over the coming 15-20 years. Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 Carillon d'Angelus is pliant, creamy and super expressive. Black cherry, gravel, incense, chocolate and lavender all meld together effortlessly. Deep and layered, with terrific persistence, the 2023 Carillon has a lot to offer. Time in the glass brings out its textural richness and volume. This is impeccably done.

The 2023 Le Carillon d'Angélus has a fragrant and quite floral bouquet with black cherries, boysenberry and subtle violet scents that blossom in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pleasing tension on the entry. This has a fine bead of acidity, quite linear in style, with sufficient sapidity on the finish to tempt you back for another sip. Give this a couple of years in bottle, then enjoy over the next 15 years.
