Tasting notes
The 2023 Calicem, 100% Merlot, is superb. Plush contours wrap around a core of black cherry, plum, new leather and licorice. Vinification in oak softens the contours nicely. Blackberry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, espresso and a kiss of French oak shape the long, persistent finish. Tasted two times.

Aromas of warm toast, chalk, blackberries, cassis and some roasted red peppers. Complex and balanced, with a medium body, fine tannins and juicy red fruit. Long, agile and nuanced. There is immediate appeal thanks to its chalky lightness, but this can age for years. Pure merlot. Drink now or hold.
Black raspberries, flowers, licorice, and cherries form the perfume. On the palate, the wine is lush, creamy, and fresh. Here you find minerality, along with mint that accents the layers of ripe, dark red berries. The long creamy, fruit-filled finish wraps everything up nicely. The wine is made from 100% old vine Merlot planted in 1961. Drink from 2027-2043.
This pure merlot shows depth and firmness, with terra-cotta and black-cherry character. Some saltiness, too. It's full and layered with integrated tannins and a juicy finish. Lightly chewy finish. Mostly limestone. Tasted twice.
