Tasting notes
Francesco Versio’s 2017 Barbaresco is a total knock-out. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, kirsch, dried herbs and star anise soar out of the glass. Translucent and deeply textured, the 2017 possesses terrific balance and tons of personality. It is a wine of exotic perfume and striking inner sweetness that captures the flamboyant style of the year while remaining very much medium in body. This is an impressive showing from a young grower who really seems to be coming into his own.

Just mid ruby with orange rim. Leafy cherry fruit nose with quite a bit of concentration underneath. Supple sour-cherry fruit and firm, slightly demanding tannins, but the fruit prevails – just. A little astringent on the finish, but more bottle age will give it much-needed polish. (WS)
