Tasting notes
The 2021 Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru has a slightly riper nose than its peers with crushed strawberry, red cherries, vanilla and orange pith. Something of an old sweet shop here—not unattractive. The palate has a soft-textured opening. A light and easy-drinking Volnay with bitter cherry and graphite, leading to a light undemanding finish. Not bad but a bit forgettable. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Bottled mid December. Quite severe and very youthful. Perhaps a bit over-extracted with a bitter note on the end. (JR)
The 2021 Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru probably owns the most satisfying aromatics from a difficult set of reds from the Domaine: redcurrant and white tipped strawberry and a touch of sous-bois . There is a tad more fruit intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, quite saline, structured and a little lean on the finish, yet it still offers more depth than the Clos des Chênes or Taillepieds.
