The 2019 Barolo Bricco San Pietro Vigna d'la Roul is a dense, brooding wine. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark red fruit, menthol, licorice, spice, Chinato and orange peel. Dense and packed to the core, the 2019 is positively stellar in this tasting. Even so, this needs a few years to soften, as the tannins are searing in their intensity.

This is perfumed with dried cherries, dried orange peel, ground spices and bark. Some chocolate, too. Medium- to full-bodied. Firm with slightly chewy tannins, but it is also fresh with crunchy fruit, violets and crushed rocks. Chalky finish. Drink from 2026.
