The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées 1er Cru has more precision and mineralité than the Les Macherelles, with hints of gunflint and white tea. The palate is vibrant on the entry with Clementine, quince, and a touch of sour lemon, building nicely towards a very cohesive and quite persistent finish. Excellent.

Lamy's 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées is planted at a density of 20,000 vines per hectare, but since the vines are still young, he doesn't yet label it as a high-density cuvée. Bursting with aromas of green apple, white flowers, toasted nuts, iodine and youthful reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with terrific depth at the core, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. It's also one of the more open and expressive wines out of the gates this year.
