The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a slightly diffuse nose at first, though it coheres with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tannins, but there is a lack of tension and precision. Rather reduced toward the finish, which does not urge another sip. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Lightish cherry red. Smells sweeter than the Vosne Les Chaumes, with a hint of vanilla. Dry texture is to the fore at the moment, though there is cool red fruit within the framework. (JH)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is deeper in color than the Echézeaux. This is the one cru that felt a little overripe on the nose, very candied and showing just a touch of volatility. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip and a little more controlled than the nose, although I would rather wait until this is in bottle before judging it.
About the producer
Today run by the fourth-generation Nicole Lamarche, this property (previously known as Domaine François Lamarche) is firmly among the best in Burgundy. The Vosne-Romanée estate is most famous for its monopole Grand Cru La Grande Rue.
