This two-hectare monopole is a plot of yellow marl surrounded by red clay and, since the 13th century, it has been planted to Chardonnay, an island of white in amongst a sea of Pinot Noir. The 2022 was a little reductive when we tasted it, but there is still lovely ripe fruit on the palate, with a generous mouth-feel. Weighty peach and dried apricot make for a fulsome mouthful, yet pithy lemon reins things in.

Monopole. Cask sample. Less ripe and more cedary than the Beaune du Château. With a layer of minerally stone dust. Both creamy and chalky on the palate, an attractive contrast. (JH)
The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos Saint-Landry Blanc is charming and expressive, bursting with aromas of pear, sweet orchard fruit, white flowers, apricot and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and satiny, it's textural but vibrant, concluding with a delicately saline finish.
