2013 Amour de Deutz

Tasting Notes
A serious fizz with deeply carved contours of flavour and structure. More smoke-and-stones minerality than most of the 20-odd sparkling wines (mostly champagne) that I’m tasting today. Salted lemons, lemon marmalade. Firm and classic and fabulous.

Disgorged in May 2022 and crafted from Chardonnay sourced in the commune of Avize (39%), Oger (24%), Mesnil-sur-Oger (22%), Vertus (10%) and both Villers-Marmery and Trépail (5%), the 2013 Brut Millésimé Amour de Deutz offers aromas of lemon oil, kumquat, herbs and ripe orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, precise and crystalline, it has a good core and an elegant mousse, concluding with a mouthwatering, ethereal finish. This is a fine, elegant rendition of Amour de Deutz.
The 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs Millésimé Amour de Deutz is every bit as expressive as it was last year. Hints of candied lemon peel, passion fruit and tangerine zest give the 2013 subtle exoticness that's balanced by the wine's driving, bright acids. Now past its first decade, the 2013 remains very youthful. What a gorgeous Champagne it is.
Certainly the highlight in this tasting from Deutz, I absolutely love the nose of the 2013 Champagne Amour De Deutz Millésime Brut. It sports a vibrant pale yellow color and is laced with layered aromas of pastry cream, candied grapefruit, frangipane, peach rings, and shortbread. Elegant and detailed, the palate opens to a refined mousse that allows the wine itself to shine through, with a focused lift on the finish. It is a wonderfully expressive and graceful wine to drink now through 2040.
