Tasting notes
Sexy, expressive aromas of lemon, mirabelle and honey suggest a concentrated, savory wine. Densely packed but quite juicy, with flavors of lemon, lime, white flowers and verbena enlivened by strong acid cut. The fresh, echoing finish displays lovely salinity and peachy lift. Five years of cellaring will bring more earth and honeysuckle to go with the ripe citrus notes, says de Nicolay.

The 2014 Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses has quite a rich, lightly honeyed, tropical-toned bouquet that is nicely defined, a touch of mint developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly waxy opening, touches of grilled walnut and oyster shell coming through, leading to an elegant, probably quite forward finish. So enjoy this as soon as it is in bottle and then over the next 4-5 years.
