Vinfolio, Nov 2023

Au Pied du Mont Chauve has 0.5 hectares of this Premier Cru, neighbouring Chenevottes and closer to the village on the northern side. As for the Clos Saint Jean, it spent 18 months on lees (12 of which were in oak, 50% foudre and 50% barrique). It offers a more mineral nose, yet with an underlying richness. On the palate, there is more tension and acidity from the start, and you can feel the backbone of ripe, rich fruit beneath. This is a very fine example of this cuvée, maybe less complex than Clos Saint Jean but very elegant, offering a velvety and round, generous finish. This will likely be approachable younger and should evolve nicely for 10-15 years.

Au Pied du Mont Chauve is one of the Picard family's labels. The estate produces brilliant-value Burgundy and is one of few producers able to hold back wine for later release.
