The 2021 Château Desmirail checks in as 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It's a quintessential Margaux with its complexity and elegance. Red and black fruits, flowers, violets, spices, and loamy earth are just some of its nuances, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It's a hidden little gem in Margaux that readers will love to drink over the coming decade or more.

The 2021 Desmirail left me scratching my head. The first bottle showed well, in line with my note from barrel. Two subsequent bottles were attractive on the nose, yet neither could not disguise a vegetal note on the finish that remained in the mouth. It’s difficult to assign a score, so I will leave it a couple of years.

The 2021 Desmirail is laced with hints of dried herbs, tobacco, cedar, mint and dried flowers. Readers will find an especially savory, perfumed Margaux with a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon character. There is enough depth and ripeness to keep this from being vegetal, but its herbal and floral character remains present. Even so, all the elements are nicely balanced. I would give this a good bit of air prior to serving.

Offering up aromas of minty berries, cherries and marmalade, the 2021 Desmirail is medium-bodied, soft and giving, with supple tannins and an open-knit, slightly diffuse palate.
