First vintage for winemaker Ben Haines. Mild growing season, long and steady ripening conditions. Dense, bold colour; beautiful bright purple fruit and spice lift; perfumed; polished, glossy black cherry on the tongue, flowing tannins. Poise and potential. Still a pup. (MA)

2015 was an ideal season: a good lead-in with moisture and then reasonably dry, with a great finish to the season. So, this 2015 Langi Shiraz is finely spiced on the nose, with sumac and ground white pepper, bramble, salted licorice, mulberry compote, Satsuma plum skin and clove. In the mouth, the wine is mid-weight and supple, and it exhibits a lovely, blanketing weight on the tongue. While fine, the fruit soars long through the finish. 13.8% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
(aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 30 percent of them new) Youthful purple. Mineral- and smoke-accented cherry, blueberry and pipe tobacco aromas show excellent focus, picking up suggestions of allspice, vanilla and licorice with air. Pliant, deeply concentrated black and blue fruit flavors show outstanding clarity, supple texture and a touch of bitter chocolate that emerges as the wine opens up. Finishes seamless, spicy and extremely long, featuring velvety tannins and lingering suggestions of juicy blue fruit and dusty minerals.
