Score 90/100 · Drink 2018-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Apr 2018

The 2011 Barolo Fossati is strongly redolent of oak tones, including cinnamon, clove and Spanish cedar. Yet the warmth and the succulent fruit from this hot vintage does a very good job of contrasting that oaky spice and smoke. This wine feels soft and rich in terms of texture. It offers dark cherry and dried blackberry flavors on the finish.

Mid ruby with a little rust at the rim. Light nose. Rather sweet and simpler (and more pinched) than most. Pleasant enough without being hugely ambitious. Hot finish. (JR)

La Morra. Cask sample. Pale crimson. Interesting, vibrant agricultural smell. Tense and quite rich and racy. Lots of leaf mould and excitement. Promising! Though an overlay of sweetness. (JR)
