Tasting notes
The 2005 Torcolato pulls you in with notes of blood orange, gingery spice, dried nectarines and roasted almond. A burst of inner sweetness greets the palate, as a saline core of acids add balance with ripe apple and pear under an air of pretty inner florals. While incredibly rich and fruit-focused, this maintains exceptional balance, leaving the palate with spiced citrus and sour melon tones that last incredibly long.

This is another set of strong wines from one of Veneto's most inspired producers. Fausto Maculan is best known for his phenomenal dessert wines, but his dry reds merit serious consideration as well. 2005 was a cool, damp year which presented its greatest challenges to early-maturing varieties like Merlot, while the later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon had time to recuperate.
