1971 Angelus

The 1971 Angélus comes from a magnum donated by the estate for a charity dinner. It has a simple, leathery bouquet with decayed red fruit, sandalwood and woodland aromas, but nothing that sets the pulse racing. The palate is one-dimensional. That said, it is fresher and more pleasurable than my solitary encounter with a "half-magnum". The bottom line is that it comes across as a rather mundane Saint Émilion that is past its best. Of course, the wine is infinitely superior today.
