The 2012 Barolo is a little less expressive on the bouquet with mild aromas of forest fruit, dark spice and grilled herb. The mouthfeel is linear and tight. This wine should flesh out further with more time in the cellar.

The 2012 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Burlotto and a fabulous introduction to the house style. Lifted, precise and translucent, the 2012 is a pure joy to taste today. This mid-weight, refined Barolo is pure class. Sweet red berry, mint and spice nuances are laced into the super-expressive, inviting finish. Most of this fruit is sourced from Breri.
The ‘base’ for this Barolo comes from the Vigna Breri, next to Monvigliero, but a little lower and south-southeast facing. ‘Has the elegance of Monvigliero, but perhaps not the depth.’ Bottled in spring 2015. Verduno. Pale ruby with watery rim. Elegant strawberry and raspberry nose with a hint of liquorice. More depth with aeration. Supple, elegant and fluid on the palate with firm tannins. No immense concentration but an elegant, delicious wine. (WS)
Candied fruit, ripe and plump with a herbal edge to give contrast. Milled tannin, fresh acid, modest length. (RH)
