From 80-year-old vines growing in the commune of Pommard comes the 2019 Côteaux Bourguignons Mon Poulain, a blend of some 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Gamay. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, smoked meats, wild berries and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with terrific depth at the core, rich structuring tannins and a long, tangy finish. Could this modest appellation rank as Sadde's finest wine despite its humble pedigree? It's certainly a fascinating demonstration of what's possible.
