Tasting notes
A food friendly and organic wine, the 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo exhibits a medium dark color and concentration, which is a sign of this vintage that tended to produce very rich fruit. Cassis and cherry segue to black licorice and crushed stone. Fruit from this wine comes from various parts of the greater Bricco Boschis MGA. Production is an ample 17,333 bottles.

'It was very difficult in 2019 to make a Langhe Nebbiolo because in this vintage it tends towards being a Barolo with an important structure, which demands ageing.' From young vines and parts from Bricco Boschis. 'We didn't want to make it in this year, only Barolo, but the market demands this wine.' All of Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo is on allocation. Concentrated mid ruby with orange tinges. Pretty nose of ripe cherry, but still a little subdued and with spicy, savoury notes. Nervy, sappy and juicy red fruit followed by firm tannins gripping the fruit on the finish. Very long and tannic. This could easily age for another two to three years and probably longer. 'We should have left it another six months in cask [before bottling]. In great years it is difficult to make a good Langhe Nebbiolo, in less important years it is much easier.' (WS)
