Score 92/100 · Drink 2017-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2016
Another compelling wine, the 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva shows the richer, more brooding side of Sangiovese, with darker tonalities of red fruit and more than enough pure volume to totally saturate the palate. The 2011 is a forward and, at times, obvious wine. Even so, all the elements fall into place effortlessly. Sweet tobacco, cedar, dried herbs, smoke and autumn leaves add a striking savory underpinning of nuance. The tannins could use a little time to soften, but I wouldn't wait too long.
