Score 94/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

Like the regular bottling, the 2015 Saint Joseph les Grisieres is atypically big and rich, even showing a touch of jamminess. Espresso, herbs, black cherries and plums appear on the nose. Full-bodied, the wine shows plenty of structure and freshness to balance things out, finishing long and richly textured. Give it at least two years in the cellar and drink it over the next decade or so.

Lurid ruby. Complex, highly perfumed aromas of dark berry preserves, cola, cracked pepper and potpourri, lent vivacity by a smoky mineral topnote. Palate-staining blackberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors become sweeter and livelier with air. Deftly blends power and finesse and finishes sappy, precise and impressively long, revealing building tannins and resonating florality.

(fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for 18 months in barriques and demi-muids , a third of them new): Glass-staining ruby. Displays highly expressive aromas of ripe cherry, boysenberry, licorice pastille and Asian spices, with a smoky mineral quality building as the wine opens up. Fresh and energetic on the palate, offering concentrated black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors sweetened by a floral pastille quality. Puts on weight while maintaining vibrancy on the subtly tannic finish, which shows outstanding clarity and mineral-driven persistence.

The classic bottling. Pretty dark crimson. Lively, aromatic, with really polished, ripe fruit. Lifted, elegant and winning. (JR)
