Tasting notes
Going a few years back in time, the Selvapiana 2019 Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale shows medium-rich concentration with Amarena cherry, heritage rose, lightly toasted spice and potting soil. The vintage delivers more softness and fruit weight, and the acidity is integrated and mild. Overall, you get a smooth expression of Sangiovese to serve with a classic roast chicken. This is a 46,000-bottle release. The 2019 vintage celebrates the 40th vintage made of this wine.

The 2019 Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucherchiale is incredible and refined, with floral layers of brilliant red raspberry, forested earth, and potpourri. This continues seamlessly to the palate with complexity and weightlessness, fine tannins, and a long finish. Notes of leather, cedar, and red cherry meld together in a medium frame. This beautiful wine is a stunner now but will also be a joy to revisit over the next 15 or more years.
Aged for 18 months in oak and then at least a year in bottle. First bottle: TCA affected. Second bottle: transparent garnet. Different nose from the older vintages! Sweeter and still very fresh and this difference is possibly just because the wine is younger and lower in acidity. Quite a bit of fine tannin. Still very youthful. (JR)
