Oak fermented. Serious, savoury, bone dry nose. This is only a Brut but it tastes like an Extra Brut. Very composed and sedate, this is not an exuberant wine, despite the vintage. The oak fermentation seems rather to have suppressed the fruit. It's an intellectual wine with a very dry finish. Something to mull over at the dinner table perhaps. (JR)

The 1999 Liesse D'Harbonville is distinctly floral and savory, with the fruit pushed to the background. Understated and at times even a bit ethereal, the 1999 graces the palate with an appealing array of candied lemon, eau de vie, wild flowers, dried pears and spices. This mid-weight Champagne is a touch eccentric, but certainly not lacking in either personality or character.
Bright gold. Sexy, smoke-tinged aromas of poached pear, melon and nectarine, with notes of vanilla and chalky minerals adding complexity. Offers sappy, deeply pitched orchard and pit fruit flavors and a suggestion of toasted brioche that builds on the back half. Finishes on a gentle nutty note, with excellent focus and length and a lingering floral quality. LH-99221013.
