Tasted blind. Maturing ruby with orange tinges. Brooding, spicy, perfumed cherry-jam nose. Quite firm and compact on the palate with real depth but firm slightly astringent tannins. Really needs time to open up. (WS)

Luigi Oddero's 2014 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level offering. Crushed rose petal, orange peel, dried cherry and hints of sweet tobacco all lift from the glass. Understated and light on its feet, the 2014 is a wine of pure and total class. Readers should expect a feminine style that exudes grace.
One third of the grapes came from Broglio and Baudana (Serralunga d’Alba), one third from Castiglione Rocche Rivera (in the Scarrone Cru of Castiglione Falletto) and one third from Rive Santa Maria (La Morra). Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Brooding sweet cherry nose and really reluctant to open up. Succulent fruit palate with surprising depth. Firm tannins, but intelligently judged and not overpowering the fruit. They are just a touch drying on the finish, but overall this is a successful wine and transparent. (WS)
