The 2016 Mercurey from the Château de Chamirey is a very attractive introductory cuvée that's assembled from ten different plots dotted all over the appellation. The wine offers up an attractive bouquet of cherries, cassis and sweet forest floor, followed by a supple, velvety and medium-bodied palate with a nicely layered core of fruit and melting tannins.

Stony, lightly cedary citrus. Oak sweetness on the palate slightly dominates the fruit core at the moment, but it has decent length and a mouth-watering finish. (JH)
