Tasting notes
I did a tasting of Raymond Usseglio's 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape. It is excellent, but reveals little color saturation, sweetness, and fat, and a compressed texture. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel (610) 486-0800

Full, dark red. Roasted redcurrant, coffee and nuts on the nose. Good richness and texture but a bit green, even musty, in the mouth. The barrels give the finish a hardness and cut off the wine fruit. I would have attributed these characteristics to a bad cork had I not found the same problems in my barrel sample of the estate's '99.
