The 2016 Chardonnay Estate opens with vibrant aromas of biscotti, white flowers, yogurt and honeyed pear. The palate is initially round, rich and concentrated, first hinting at and later revealing a polished core of precise acidity on the finish. As with many vintages of Mount Eden Chardonnay, it becomes increasingly flashy and forward with aeration and should continue to improve in the cellar.

Somewhat muted aromas of lemon and dried mango. Bright tropical flavours have a nice zip thanks to excellent acidity but lack some complexity. Pleasant and straightforward and mercifully restrained in the use of oak. (AY)
Planted 1984 to 1988 by Jeffrey Patterson. 14,500 bottles made. Pale gold. Rather muted nose but it promises much on the palate. Racy and lively with California undertow, Very impressive and very unlike the CA Chardonnay norm. (JR)
The 2016 Chardonnay is a very pretty wine. Tangerine peel, tropical overtones, mint and butter notes give the 2016 a decidedly extroverted feel in terms of its flavor profile, and yet the wine remains a bit compact in its overall feel. In 2016, the fruit was brought in entirely in August, which is historically on the early side. The 2016 will drink nicely with minimal cellaring, although time in bottle should help the mid-palate flesh out a bit more.
