Deep ruby colour. Fresh blackcurrant, blackcurrant leaf and mint on the nose. The palate is very crunchy and vibrant, with lively acidity and red fruit. There is a hint of jalapeño, and the green edge is a little heavy-handed at this stage. It should resolve with a little time. (TP)

Deep ruby red, sweet black cherry and loganberry, cassis pastille (something I often get in great Cabernet from Australia, as the flavours are so concentrated and pure). No hard edges, this has tannins but they are wrapped in chocolate, with smoked rosemary, anis, turmeric, wild herbs and spices. It rises up to meet you and doesn’t let go, handling a difficult growing season with ease. Acidity is fresh, giving a kick on the finish, suggesting that this need another thee to four years in bottle. Great stuff from owner Will Berliner. 175 of 2888 bottles, 3.71ph. Harvest March 29-30, 3.71ph. Biodynamic farming across the entire estate, but no certification.

Cloudburst is a boutique Margaret River winery whose rise to fame has been nothing short of meteoric. Winemaker-founder Will Berliner released the first vintage of Cloudburst in 2010 to great critical acclaim; his wines are now to be found in the cellars of some of the world’s greatest restaurants.
