Tasting notes
Sandri’s 2015 Barolo Riserva Perno opens with a striking bouquet laced with rosewater, mint, pine and blood orange. The proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove, the 2015 packs a serious punch behind its deceptively mid-weight personality. The 2015 is surprisingly accessible (in relative terms) for a young Sandri Barolo. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, but will be even better in a few years’ time. This super-classic, mid-weight Barolo is so alluring.

The 2015 Barolo Riserva Perno is another unusual, deeply personal wine. Sandri fermented the 2015 in cement, where the wine also do most of its aging, except for the 18 months in cask that are required by law. Black cherry, lavender, spice, dried flowers, sweet tobacco, dried herbs, licorice and menthol come together in the glass. This powerful, dark, volatile and explosive wine is endowed with tremendous fruit depth and power, not to mention tons of personality.
