Tasting Notes
Floral, non-fruity hints of crushed stone and talcum powder appear on the nose of Aubert's 2021 Chardonnay Powder House, creating an attractive counterpoint to the wine's honeyed richness and intense white-peach notes. Full-bodied and silky in feel, it's a bit custardy in texture yet lithe, graceful and long, with an almost mentholated finish. There are 2,000 cases this vintage, from a Forestville vineyard planted in 2015 mainly to Hyde Old Wente, plus a bit of Mount Eden.

The 2021 Powder House Chardonnay is a little closed at first, with notes of wet slate and struck flint leading to a core of ripe pears, apple sauce, and fresh ginger with wafts of cashews and candied lemon peel. The full-bodied palate is more savory, with toasty, brioche notes coming through and a crisp line of acidity, finishing long and graceful. This vineyard, on Goldridge soils near downtown Forestville, was planted in 2013. There are basically 2 clones, Hyde and Mt Eden, on 420 A & 114 rootstocks, and the row direction is due north.
