2022 Boyd Cantenac

Good depth and complexity, showing ripe but fresh blackberries, dark olives, graphite and violets. Extracted and a bit chewy on the palate with medium to full body and a pretty long but tannin-drenched finish. A bit less could be more. Wait until 2028.

The 2022 Boyd-Cantenac has a very attractive nose: clean and pure black fruit, crushed stone and light graphite scents percolating through with time. Great definition. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Good depth, quite sapid in the mouth, though it cuts away swiftly on the finish. Otherwise, this is a perfectly decent Margaux that deserves two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Bristling with potential, you feel immediately the difference in the quality of the fruit on the aromatics, luscious, like the 2018, brambled autumnal, sweet blackberry, sloe berries, ripe tannins, 90% new oak for ageing.
