Tasting notes
The 2006 Barolo Monfalletto is more ethereal, subtle and delicate than the 2007 but also shows less richness in its fruit. Beautiful, precise aromatics lead to a chiseled core of bright red fruit as the wine opens up in the glass. The tannins show notable focus and drive through to the finish. The 2006 Monfalleto is a lovely Barolo, if slightly less generous than the 2007.

Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the few estates where the 2006s are more interesting than the 2007s, with the exception of the entry-level Barolo Monfalleto. Medium red with a hint of amber at the rim. The nose and palate hit all the Barolo food groups: strawberry, tobacco, cedar, camphor, mocha, marzipan, nuts and flowers, complicated by a light balsamic quality. Plush in the middle yet delicate for 2006 in spite of its considerable body. A very firmly built wine that finishes with big, sweet, broad tannins and lingering complexity.
