Tasting notes
The 2022 La Tour de By meets my expectations from the en primeur tasting. Evoking aromas of pencil lead, dark wild berries and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated with a fleshy core of fruit and a delicate, precise and fresh finish. This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot is a real success.

Smoky black cherries, graphite, classy oak, and sappy floral/herbal notes all emerge from the 2022 Château La Tour De By, a medium-bodied, concentrated, rock-solid Médoc that has the balance and structure to evolve for 15-20 years. This is based on 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, from gravelly soils, and spent a year in barrel.
The 2022 La Tour de By has an intense mocha and black tea-scented bouquet with decent delineation and touches of cedar emerging with time. The medium-bodied, harmonious and poised palate offers a touch of sapid black fruit leading to an elegant blackberry- and bilberry-scented finish. This is very fine.
Elongated tannins, with firm architecture and a spicy, fresh uplift. High alcohol for this spot, so high up the peninsula, speaks to the heat of the vintage. More spice than fruit perhaps, but good quality.
About the producer

Situated on a gravel outcrop on the banks of the Gironde, this property has 94 hectares under vine, producing reliably consistent, traditionally styled Claret that really delivers for the price.
