Always close to an even split of Semillon and Sauvignon (there might be a splash of Sauvignon Gris), the 2022 Château De Chantegrive Caroline Blanc offers ripe melon, honeyed pineapple, some spice, and honeyed flowers. Medium-bodied and nicely textured, with outstanding length, it’s a rich, fleshy, opulent wine that does well in the vintage. Drink bottles over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2025-2032.

Opens with a hit of straw and spice, followed by apricot and poached pear, star anise, has character but impacted by the vintage. At Chantegive they picked early, before the intense heat returned in September. 34hl/h yield, from gravel, sand and limestone soils, 50% new oak for ageing, with regular lees stirring, low temperature fermentation never straying above 20C.
Attractive pears and tangerines here with floral and mineral undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with a juicy center palate and chalky, phenolic finish.
50% Sauvignon Blanc, 45% Sémillon, 5% Sauvignon Gris. Cask sample. Pale with green flecks. Expressive nose. Citrus and exotic fruit. Hint of Sauvignon Blanc thiol but not too emphatic. Palate ripe but lacks a bit of lift and zip. (JL)
