Leafy herbs, tobacco, damp earth, and ripe black cherry fruit all emerge from the 2022 Château Rahoul, a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec. It's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel and fine tannins, all making for a beautiful Graves to drink over the coming decade.
The 2022 Rahoul has a slightly disjointed bouquet at first, featuring earthy black fruit and a touch of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. It's a bit flat-footed toward the finish, while other cuvées from the Dourthe portfolio showed more finesse and refinement.
Firm structure and depth, careful construction, touch of honeysuckle, reflective of the high degree of Sémillon in a hot vintage, well balanced by lime zest, white peach and apricot. Unfussy, enjoyable. Ageing on the lees, regular stirring, no new oak, sandy gravel and clay soils.
