Score 93/100 · Drink 2022-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, May 2023
This back vintage gives us an exciting opportunity to test the aging potential of Paolo Bea's wines. The 2011 Montefalco Sagrantino Pagliaro shows tertiary aromas of cured tobacco, campfire ash, curry leaf, bresaola and dried fruit, but I am impressed by its overall elegance. The Sagrantino grape (and its tannins) have been softened by time and winemaking, and you especially feel the effect in the palate. There is a powdery sensation with hints of sour fruit (and 15% alcohol). I'd give this wine another 10 years. Production is 12,621 bottles.
