Tasting notes
The 2000 Barolo, with some attractive plum and cherry fruit and hints of roses, is rather hard and dry in texture and will face some obstacles in completely rounding off. Drink: 2006-2014. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Medium-deep red. Aromas of dried flowers, licorice, menthol, tar and dill. Sweet and thick on the palate, with flavors of dark berries and leather. Less oaky than this producer's crus but there's some greenness lurking. Finishes with broad, dusty, slightly drying tannins.
Deep ruby. Topnote of bonfires. Chewy and dense. Lots of tough tannins. Well mannered but not especially exciting. (JR)
