Tasting notes
The 2011 Barolo Ginestra is an expression of Nebbiolo from a warm vintage, with bold fruit aromas and a more simplistic overall presentation. The fruit layering is a bit thicker and heavier in this wine. Blackberry and ripe cherry segue to aromas of black licorice, tar and earthy truffle. Spicy wood tones are tucked in neatly at the back.

The 2011 Barolo Ginestra comes across as a bit bombastic today. There is plenty of immediacy and sexiness, but not quite the pedigree of Ginestra, which is one of the very best sites in all of Monforte. Attractive scents of violet and mint add nuance on the dark, dense finish. I imagine the 2011 will drink well with only a few more years in bottle.
Pale ruby with orange tinges. Tight and closed yet sweetly fragrant. Lots of concentrated fruit with bitter-sweet, powdery tannins. Quite hedonistic and could almost be approached now. (WS)
Cask sample. Mid crimson. Well-mannered mulchy nose. Lots of drive and medium-bodied fruit. Sweet green leaves. Hint of cabbage? Mid weight. Correct. (JR)
